Search engine submission is a huge topic, and wiser folx than me have written reams and reams of stuff on how to get your site into the top position in the various search engines. The fact of the matter is that you can be on top today and not tomorrow. As fast as the web developers invent new tricks to increase search engine placement, the search engines change their algorithms, or invent ways to penalize those who abuse the various ranking systems. "Secrets" of search engine optimization are usually ancient history by the time the general public gets to know about it. And staying on top of all the changes is a full-time job. I've included here some sites that I check regularly, people who watch the search engines for me, and make my life a lot easier, as well as information about optimizing and submitting your site to both free and paid search engines.
